THU, MAY 11, 2017 - Royals manager Ned Yost said Wednesday that Wood is an option to start Sunday against the Orioles, Rustin Dodd of The Kansas City Star reports. Yost will have to fill the gap left by Ian Kennedy (hamstring) for at least one more turn through the rotation. The first chance went to veteran right-hander Chris Young, and the manager said he was "leaning" toward going that same route this weekend. However, Young lasted just three innings in an unimpressive effort Tuesday, so Wood could get the call. The 30-year-old Wood hasn't started a game since late in the 2015 season as a member of the Cubs. If the left-hander does in fact get the ball, owners would be wise to avoid Wood considering his 11.91 ERA and 2.38 WHIP over 12 appearances this season.
