THU, MAY 25, 2017 - Butler (2-0) allowed a single run on just four hits and two walks while striking out a batter through five innings during Thursday's win over San Francisco.
Butler has won two of this three starts and now sports a 1.93 ERA, 1.36 WHIP and 5.8 K/9. The Cubs discussed using six starters during the offseason, so even when Brett Anderson (back) returns, Butler could still stick in the rotation. Additionally, Butler has the potential to leapfrog Anderson entirely. However, Chicago could also look outside the organization for a pitching upgrade at some point, so there are probably too many unknowns at this stage of the game to make Butler a long-term fantasy priority in the majority of settings. He does boast fleeting value with his next start projected to be on the road against San Diego.
